February Update
Dear Classmates:
It's been a couple of months since the last email communication and we want to keep you updated as to the plans for our upcoming 50th reunion event on Friday, September 25, 2009. The first deposit has been submitted to reserve the Westin Hotel in Pasadena so we are formally locked in for that date. This is very exciting for the committee. Thanks to all of you who so generously donated to make this happen.
We are actively finalizing all the details for the reunion weekend. The response to attending the reunion has been terrific. If everyone who plans to attend comes, we should have about 380 people at the reunion. That would be a fantastic turnout. We hope you will start making your plans so you can get good rates on travel and lodging. We suggest the internet as the best place to look for bargain rates. We talked with the Westin about getting a good rate on rooms but we have to guarantee a block of rooms and pay for them if they are not used. We cannot make that commitment. There are a lot of good hotels in Pasadena including the Westin.
The following activities will be offered on the reunion weekend:
Friday, Sept. 25, 2009:
· Golf Tournament at Brookside Golf Course. Please contact Lynn (PW) Meyer at lynnmeyer1@aol.com or call him at 510-881-0814 to make arrangements to play in this shot gun tournament.
· Noon lunch at the CalTech Athenaeum. Please contact the reunion committee at 818-790-1959 to make a reservation for lunch and conversation at this lovely historic location (Einstein slept here).
· Reunion dinner event: 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at the Westin Hotel.
Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009:
· Bird walk in Eaton Canyon, 7:30 a.m. Please contact Carolyn Spencer Biller at cbiller@sbcglobal.net or call her at: 714-544-0609 to go on this bird walk with Jim McKeever (classmate) who has a great deal of knowledge in this area.
· Muir Alumni Museum: The museum will be open on Saturday morning with information provided by the museum curators. The time is to be determined.
· Saturday evening: Informal get together for whoever is in town and would like to gather to have drinks, dinner and reminisce. We will meet in the bar at the Westin hotel and go from there.
Please keep in touch with us if you have any questions about this great weekend. Also, please pass this information on to those who may not have email. Mailings are only sent periodically, and fortunately, most of the classmates have email.
We look forward to this great event and seeing all of you in September.
