Last Blog Reunion Update

Dear Reunion Attendee:

It’s now just one week before we get to see all of you. What an exciting journey this has been for us. We have been so fortunate to be able to chat with just about everyone who’s coming, and now to connect the faces with the names will even make it better.

We have a few things to let you know about before the event.

1. Reunion start time: We have moved the time up to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 25 for registration. We have a lot of people coming, so this will help to get everyone through the registration area to pick up their name badges. The bars will be open so you can start socializing. Note: Registration is by last name or maiden name.
2. Parking: Self-parking will be sponsored. Please keep your ticket and it will be validated when you leave for the evening. You will need to park in the underground parking garage located off of Union Street. Union St. is a one-way street, going west, and the entrance is just west of Los Robles Ave. on the right hand side of the street. There is also valet parking at the entrance of the hotel, if you wish.
3. Attire: People have asked us about the attire for the evening. It is “casual” and has a theme of tropical/beach (just like the 47th reunion, if you attended). For instance, I will be wearing crop pants and a flowered shirt. Gary will wear a Hawaiian shirt and either shorts or pants. Remember, we will have great music to dance to so you’ll want to make sure your shoes are appropriate for dancing.
4. Memorabilia for the Muir Museum: The curators of the Muir Museum have indicated that they would love to have any memorabilia from 1959 for the museum. If you would like to bring that to the museum on Saturday, Sept. 26, they will be very happy to receive it for our class. Jackets, cheerleader outfits, pictures, etc. would be most welcome.
5. Directions for Saturday Activities: Directions for the Saturday activities have been printed up and will be available on Friday night.

If you have any questions about the upcoming weekend of activities, please call us at 818-790-1959 or email us at:
MuirReunion@gmail.com.

We will see you very soon.

Full House

Dear Classmates:

We have had several responses from our email this weekend regarding the space available for the reunion. Apparently, there are more classmates that want to attend this reunion that haven’t already sent in their reservations. This is great, but creates a dilemma. The current space and room setup for the event will not accommodate an increase in attendance. Therefore we were advised we were at a maximum capacity for the room setup.

We made a call to the hotel this morning to discuss a possible increase in attendance. They said they could make changes to the room layout and move the banquet tables to another area just to accommodate the extra people. If you have decided to attend this reunion dinner event we will need your commitment by sending in your reservation and money ($95/person) to be received no later than September 15th. Otherwise, we will not make any of these changes.

Please let us know ASAP if you are coming.

August Update

Dear Classmates:

We now have over 250 paid reservations for the reunion event on Friday, September 25, with more reservations coming in each day. What a great event this will be! We have hired a wonderful DJ to play great music for listening and dancing. The Westin Hotel is a great location (four-star hotel) and they have extended the reasonable room rate of $109 (plus tax)/night until September 1 for our event. You can’t beat that.

Not only do we have a phenomenal response to the big dinner event, but we have many people signing up to attend all the other activities so far. The Athenaeum and Mijares lunches will be well attended. Over 80 classmates and guests are going to the museum and 40 people on the bird walk. This certainly goes beyond our wildest expectations.

We do not want you to miss out on this opportunity to get together with your classmates for a great weekend of reminiscing. If you have not already sent in your reservation, please do so right away. We will be meeting with the hotel next week to finalize all the details. If you have misplaced your invitation and reunion information, please give us a call or email us and we will be happy to send another one out to you.

Call us at (818) 790-1959 if you have any questions.

We look forward to hearing from you, and most of all seeing you next month.

Reservation Deadline

Hi Classmates!

This is a reminder that the reservation deadline for our Muir 50th Reunion is July 20, 2009. It’s just a short time before we will all be gathering at the Westin Hotel to renew our friendships. What a grand event this will be!

We have a great group of classmates who have already registered for the reunion, as well as the other activities offered over the weekend! There are many of our classmates who have also taken advantage of the wonderful rates for the rooms we have blocked at the Westin Hotel. Sounds like a great party to us! If you have not made your reservation at the hotel yet, please don’t wait too long. We don’t want you to miss out on those discounted room rates.

The link for the hotel reservation: Muir Class of 1959 - 50th Reunion Celebration

We have also heard that there are some really good airfares right now for traveling as the airlines are in a fare war. The internet is a good place to look for them.

This committee is working very hard on all the details to make this a memorable event. This is a significant milestone. Please don’t miss out, as this is the last one we are coordinating.

If you have any questions about attending this reunion, please give us a call at 818-790-1959.

We hope to hear from you soon.

New Hotel Rates

Dear Classmates:

We are very pleased to say we have a steady flow of reservations coming in for the Muir 50th Reunion Celebration.

As a point of interest, we have been able to secure a block of rooms at the Westin Hotel for the wonderful rate of $109/night plus taxes (approximately $126). In order to secure these rooms you will need to click on the attached link and place your reservation as soon as possible. You can also call the Westin Hotel at the number listed in the link.

Muir Class of 1959 - 50th Reunion Celebration
If you have already made a reservation, please call the hotel to see if you can get it converted to the lower rate.

We would appreciate it if you would pass this information on to those classmates who are not on email, so they can also take advantage of these great rates too.

If you have any questions, please give us a call at (818) 790-1959.

Looking forward to seeing you in September.

It's In The Mail!!!

Hi Classmate.

We are pleased to announce that your invitation to the 50th Reunion Celebration, scheduled for the weekend of September 25-26, 2009, will go in the mail this week. If you do not receive your invitation by June 12th, or you have moved and you don’t think we have the correct address, please give us a call at (818) 790-1959. We have a deadline of July 20, 2009 to return your Registration Form. There are several activities listed for you to participate in during the weekend.

Note: The Golf Tournament location has been changed and will now be at the Scholl Canyon Golf Course with a more affordable cost. This is a great course and will be fun for all you golfers.

We are very excited about the plans and look forward to seeing all of you at the reunion.

Warning!!!

Dear Classmates:

Please disregard any reunion event cancellation notice from Classmates.com that may come to you. We deleted an old event on the website that had the wrong information contained in it and Classmates.com sent out a cancelled event notification to everyone. This sounds like the reunion has been cancelled, which it has NOT. That is a very unfriendly website! We do NOT rely on it for communication, except for posting the reunion event. We apologize for any inconvenience.

We are finalizing all plans for this 50th reunion event on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009. Please call us for any questions about the event.

Thanks.

February Update

Dear Classmates:

It's been a couple of months since the last email communication and we want to keep you updated as to the plans for our upcoming 50th reunion event on Friday, September 25, 2009. The first deposit has been submitted to reserve the Westin Hotel in Pasadena so we are formally locked in for that date. This is very exciting for the committee. Thanks to all of you who so generously donated to make this happen.

We are actively finalizing all the details for the reunion weekend. The response to attending the reunion has been terrific. If everyone who plans to attend comes, we should have about 380 people at the reunion. That would be a fantastic turnout. We hope you will start making your plans so you can get good rates on travel and lodging. We suggest the internet as the best place to look for bargain rates. We talked with the Westin about getting a good rate on rooms but we have to guarantee a block of rooms and pay for them if they are not used. We cannot make that commitment. There are a lot of good hotels in Pasadena including the Westin.

The following activities will be offered on the reunion weekend:

Friday, Sept. 25, 2009:
· Golf Tournament at Brookside Golf Course. Please contact Lynn (PW) Meyer at
lynnmeyer1@aol.com or call him at 510-881-0814 to make arrangements to play in this shot gun tournament.
· Noon lunch at the CalTech Athenaeum. Please contact the reunion committee at 818-790-1959 to make a reservation for lunch and conversation at this lovely historic location (Einstein slept here).
· Reunion dinner event: 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at the Westin Hotel.
Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009:
· Bird walk in Eaton Canyon, 7:30 a.m. Please contact Carolyn Spencer Biller at
cbiller@sbcglobal.net or call her at: 714-544-0609 to go on this bird walk with Jim McKeever (classmate) who has a great deal of knowledge in this area.
· Muir Alumni Museum: The museum will be open on Saturday morning with information provided by the museum curators. The time is to be determined.
· Saturday evening: Informal get together for whoever is in town and would like to gather to have drinks, dinner and reminisce. We will meet in the bar at the Westin hotel and go from there.

Please keep in touch with us if you have any questions about this great weekend. Also, please pass this information on to those who may not have email. Mailings are only sent periodically, and fortunately, most of the classmates have email.

We look forward to this great event and seeing all of you in September.

NOTE: Date and Location Change...

Dear Fellow Classmates:

We have had an excellent response from those who want to attend the Muir 50th reunion next year in September 2009. At this time we have over 325 people who plan to attend which is great but has presented us with some challenges with the facility we had tentatively booked for September 26, 2009 in Pasadena. We have actually outgrown the facility which has necessitated a change in our location and date. After researching a lot of locations and costs, the committee is looking at the Westin in Pasadena which will hold everyone who wants to attend at a reasonable price. Due to this change, we have decided to move the event to Friday, September 25, 2009, a day earlier. This is because all the costs for the facilities are about twice as much for a Saturday event. We hope this will not be an inconvenience and you will still be able to attend as you planned.

If you told us you planned to attend and cannot make it a day earlier, please email us back ASAP. We have to sign the hotel contract by October 1, 2008 to guarantee the date and make a significant deposit. The change of day will allow us to keep the cost down.

We would like to hear from everyone on email regarding this change.

We will get back to you soon with more details.

Thanks in advance for your help.

June Update

Dear Classmate.

The June 20 target date for returning your questionnaire has now come and gone and so far we have received 180 of the 440 questionnaires we sent out in May. We would like to thank all of you who already sent them back to us. We really appreciate the response. Of those returning the information we have about 210 people who say they are planning to attend the reunion. This is wonderful news and a great response. The more people we have, the better the celebration.

We are following up on email because we already spent quite a bit on postage with the first mailing. Please return the questionnaire so we can make sure all of our information is updated. That way, you will receive everything we send out, either by mail or email. If you are not interested, just send it back indicating that and we won't keep bombarding you with emails and correspondence.

The plans for the 50th reunion are really taking shape. On Friday, September 25, 2009, we are planning a great golf tournament with a no-host mixer in old town Pasadena on Friday night (for those who are in town and want to get together). On Saturday morning, September 26, 2009, we have a tour planned at the Muir High School Alumni Museum which is nostalgic and enjoyable. Saturday night will be the big celebration/party at the University Club of Pasadena.

We don't want you to miss out on this milestone event for the great class of 1959. If you need another letter, form or lost list, please let us know and we will be happy to send you one. We have actually located some of the people on the lost list from the tips we have received from you. A big THANK YOU for your help!

Our email is:
MuirReunion@gmail.com and our phone number is: (818) 790-1959. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions about this reunion.

We're all looking forward to hearing from you.
